Here’s how many downed trees were reported on Staten Island during Tropical Storm Isaias - silive.com

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After Tropical Storm Isaias tore through Staten Island Tuesday, the Parks Department said that over 900 downed trees had been reported on Staten Island as of 7 p.m.

Citywide, the agency said it was managing “nearly 13,000 incoming reports of tree-related issues due to Tropical Storm Isaias,” said Dan Kastanis, a spokesman with the Parks Department.

“Emergencies are prioritized. Inspections have begun; they will continue until dusk and will reconvene in the morning,” Kastanis said. “As this was a major storm, the work required for full city clearance will take multiple days.”

“We ask that tree conditions be reported to 311. In cases of true emergency, New Yorkers should call 911,” Kastanis said.

Data provided by the Parks Department showed that the agency received 7,455 reports of downed trees citywide, along with 1,121 reports of hanging limbs and 4,300 reports of downed limbs across the city.

The Parks Department is currently unable to provide timetables for individual non-emergency removals at this time, according to the agency.

Full New York City clearance of trees will take ‘multiple days,’ nearly 1,000 tree-related issued logged on S.I.

Borough residents reported damage caused by downed trees all across Staten Island, the Advance/SILive.com reported.

Mary Ciccolella, a resident of Neckar Avenue in Concord, said she “called everybody” to have a large downed tree in front of her home removed.

While she notified 311 of the downed tree and had her report acknowledged, it had not been removed as of Tuesday night.

Ciccolella said the tree is “very dangerous” and is “completely blocking the street.”

“There are pieces hanging ... the tree is kinda fragile,” she said.

Other downed trees were reported across the borough — in some cases completely blocking roads to traffic.

One tree on Ross Avenue, near 2nd Street in New Dorp, appeared to have smashed the rear window of a parked minivan.
