As a woman, young into my career, I find myself fortunate to have had the privilege of working alongside Becky Safarik on many projects the past decade. Her unrelenting determination, unassuming strength and genuine kindness has defined her tenure and the legacy she leaves.
Regardless of the task or project at hand, if Becky thought it would have value or benefit to the community, then she was all in. When there was a gap between a problem or an idea and a solution, Becky was always there to fill the gap.
She was never “above” any task and was involved in more projects and committees than humanly possible with an impressive list of accomplishments as evidence. But Becky would be the first to give others the credit, to humbly stand out of the limelight.
One memory that comes to mind of Becky was when she would lead bus tours for the new residence hall directors at UNC. On paper this seemed an inglorious, time-consuming task not worth the caliber of someone of her professional standing.
But Becky knew how valuable it would be to show off the amenities in our community because it would have a ripple effect on so many new students coming to UNC’s campus. I joined one of these RA tours to share about Downtown Greeley and was amazed at her contagious passion for our community and her sincere care for others. The woman who literally moved buildings to make way for redevelopment projects also took the time to welcome new students to the City.
That was and is Becky Safarik — an approachable, passionate, genuine woman who fully gave of her time, talent and energy to the city of Greeley. We miss you already, Becky!
With much gratitude,
Bianca Fisher & the Downtown Greeley community
