As violent protests continued to roil the nation, Target Corp. said it planned to close some of its stores in the interest of the safety of its workers. The closures include many across the Bay Area — including in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.
“We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing communities across the country,” the company, which is headquartered in Minneapolis, where a police officer has been charged with third-degree murder of Floyd. “At this time, we have made the decision to close a number of our stores. We anticipate most stores will be closed temporarily.”
