COLLEGE STATION – Nearly halfway through Texas A&M’s 10-game regular season, the eighth-ranked Aggies could benefit quite a bit if old rival Texas continues getting its act together starting this weekend at No. 6 Oklahoma State.
Should the Aggies take care of business against upstart Arkansas at Kyle Field on Halloween night and the Longhorns pull what registers as a mild upset in Stillwater, Okla., A&M would move up at least one spot in Associated Press top 25 on Sunday.
While the AP poll is not the College Football Playoff ranking, it certainly would help the Aggies’ cause if they were in the top four of the AP when the CFP is determining the final four of the CFP. So, via the wonders of The Twitter, I asked if Aggies could bring themselves to root for the Longhorns, even nearly a decade after they last played football. Most apparently cannot.
I didn’t include the lone “nopes” and “no ways” and “nahs” and other descriptive few-worded responses, but they numbered at least in the 40s at last count. A sampling of the longer responses, and sorry I could not include all, as always some submissions edited for brevity and clarity:
The Longhorns will win, giving them just enough self-confidence to be angry when they lose to Kansas State. – Matthew Loerch

True fans want what’s best for their team. Otherwise you hate another team more than you love your own. I get that some argue over the meaning of “root for.” As an Aggie, I hope Texas wins (and keeps Tom Herman). – Mike Eheman
