The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected cornerback Tyson Campbell out of Georgia with the first pick of the second round, No. 33 overall, in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Although Jacksonville has a seemingly bigger need for some depth in the slot, Campbell — listed at 6-foot-1, 193 pounds, with good length — projects more as an outside cornerback. Of course, there is a possibility the Jaguars could play him inside as well.
Campbell played in 33 career games at Georgia, recording 89 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception, 11 passes defended, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries. He also scored two defensive touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
He joins a cornerbacks group in Jacksonville that includes CJ Henderson (last year’s first-round pick), Shaquill Griffin (added in free agency), Sidney Jones, Tre Herndon, Josiah Scott, Luq Barcoo and Chris Claybrooks, among others.
In addition to his good length, athleticism and height, Campbell also has great speed, as he ran two 40-yard dashes under 4.4 seconds at his Pro Day.
Campbell joins Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne in Jacksonville’s 2021 rookie class thus far, with many more picks to go.
