Man arrested after social media fight and too many beers allegedly lead to a shooting incident - Greeley Tribune

A man was arrested after an online beef and a few too many beers lead to him allegedly shooting a handgun in the air.

At around 10 p.m. March 28,  a Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy was called to the 5300 block of Red Tail Court for shots fired.

When the deputy arrived he saw a white four-door Subaru Legacy with the driver’s side door open and two men arguing.

After separating the two men, the deputy saw several .45 ACP shell casings on the ground.

One of the men, a witness, told the deputy that he and his wife saw a car stopping in front of every house on their street. The man said that when it arrived at a specific house, the man and his wife heard eight gun shots before the vehicle sped off.

The man and his wife went to check on their neighbors outside and when they got down the street, the car had returned.

Fearing for their lives, the man told deputies that he and his wife ran inside their neighbor’s house to take cover.

The victim, who lived at the house the suspect stopped at, returned to his residence and told the deputy that he has known the suspect, 19 year-old Matthew Meisner, from high school. The victim told the deputy that the suspect has messaged him on Snapchat earlier that day saying he was going to kill him — specifically with a .45 ACP handgun.

The deputy then spoke with  Meisner, who told him that he was in the area dropping someone off at a house down the street. The suspect would not tell the deputy who the person was or what house he dropped this person off at.

The deputy reported that Meisner’s eyes were bloodshot, his breath smelled of alcohol and the suspect had a hard time getting out of the vehicle.

Meisner told the deputy that there was an empty handgun under the driver’s seat of the car and that he did not shoot the gun.

After getting consent to search the vehicle, the deputy found the gun on the passenger’s seat of the car. The slide was locked in the open position and the magazine was empty.

The deputy also saw two Modelo beer bottles on the passenger floor board as well as a full bottle of the beer in the center cup holder.

While searching the vehicle, the deputy found a .45 ACP shell casing near the empty beer bottles as well as one on the top of the trunk of the car. The shell casings matched the ones the deputy found on the ground.

The suspect was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car and transported to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed.

During his interview process, Meisner told deputies he has been fighting with the victim over social media, but didn’t go into details regarding the fight. The suspect told deputies he had drank around three beers earlier and borrowed his friend’s car to go home.

As Meisner was on his way home, he told deputies that he was near the victim’s house and was going to go assault the victim. He said he had no intentions of shooting the victim, however, as he was driving away from the victim’s house he did fire the handgun twice in the air from inside the car out of anger.

After speaking with deputies, Meisner was taken and booked into the Weld County Jail on suspicion of felony menacing, driving under the influence, prohibited use of weapons and reckless endangerment.

The suspect is currently in custody of the jail with a $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 27 for a hearing on advisement at the Weld County Courthouse in Greeley.
