Sen. Ron Johnson says 'many questions remain unanswered' after Trump's impeachment trial - WDJT

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) --- U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) is speaking out after the U.S. Senate voted to acquit former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial.

Johnson said many questions remain unanswered, but believes true healing can begin now.

"The Democrats' vindictive and divisive political impeachment is over," Johnson said. "While there are still many questions that remain unanswered, I do know neither the Capitol breach nor this trial should have ever occurred. Hopefully, true healing can now begin."

The rare Saturday session came barely one month after the deadly Jan. 6 siege at the U.S. Capitol. The vote was 57-43 to convict with seven Republicans joining all 50 Democrats, but that was short of the two-thirds majority required.

He is the first president twice impeached and the only one to face a trial after leaving office. The House had impeached him on a sole charge of incitement of insurrection.
