banyakjin.blogspot.com

It's a midweek evening of sports in Columbus as the Arena District prepares for its first baseball-soccer evening. While MiLB’s Columbus Clippers host the Iowa Cubs at Huntington Park, the Columbus Crew will host Nashville SC in the team’s third match at Lower.com Field. The game is also the third all-time meeting between the Black & Gold and Nashville with Columbus winning both previous encounters 2-0 in 2020.

The Crew is getting results with a four-match unbeaten run, including a 2-1 win against New York City FC on Saturday at Lower.com Field. Columbus hit the 20-point threshold with its extended run of just one loss in its last eight games and the good news doesn’t stop there. The squad is adding players back with forward Bradley Wright-Phillips no longer on the injured list and wingers Kevin Molino and Derrick Etienne Jr. returning from the Gold Cup.

Nashville has been excellent in its second season in MLS and hasn’t lost in its last five matches. Those last five games include three Nashville wins, its most recent being an emphatic 5-1 victory at Nissan Stadium against the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Winger Hany Mukhtar scored a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of the game and earned the MLS Player of the Week. This strong Nashville squad is still missing its best defender with Walker Zimmerman with the United States in the Gold Cup.

Injuries and Suspensions:

Crew: Artur (right hip), Aidan Morris (left knee), Milton Valenzuela (right thigh), Vito Wormgoor (right thigh), Gyasi Zardes (Gold Cup), Liam Fraser (Gold Cup), and Luis Diaz (Gold Cup) are OUT. Josh Williams (left ankle) is QUESTIONABLE.
