Nazem Kadri suspension: How many games will Avalanche forward miss? - Sporting News

The NHL on Friday suspended Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri for eight games for his head-high hit on Blues defenseman Justin Faulk.

Kadri will miss the remainder of his team's first-round Stanley Cup playoff series beginning with Game 3 on Friday night, and then games in the second round if Colorado advances.

The league's Department of Player Safety said in announcing Kadri's suspension that Kadri could have avoided making Faulk's head the principal point of contact. Kadri was given a match penalty for his third-period hit in Game 2 on Wednesday. Faulk suffered an upper-body injury that forced him to leave that game and then miss Game 3.

The league also noted Kadri's history of suspensions as a basis for the length of the ban. In 2019, Kadri, then a member of the Maple Leafs, was suspended for five playoff games when he cross-checked the Bruins' Jake DeBrusk in the face in Game 2 of the first round.

"In short, this is a high, forceful check to an opponent's head that caused an injury and was delivered by a player with a substantial disciplinary record," the DOPS said.

The Blues called for Kadri's suspension after Game 2, saying the veteran "can't control himself."
