Portland Public Schools opened a brand new Kellogg Middle School in fall 2021, after closing it in 2007. The district plans to make Harrison Park K-8 School, also a former middle school, back into one in fall 2022. Officials are proposing many changes to Southeast Portland schools' boundaries and feeder patterns to enact the conversion of Harrison Park and ensure Southeast Portland students have more equitable access to course offerings.
Officials in the state’s largest district have proposed two plans to create an additional middle school and right-size nearby schools in much of Southeast Portland.
Those draft plans, introduced at a special meeting Thursday evening, could send as many as 3,000 students to different schools than currently envisioned.
