Sri Lanka may have to redouble its efforts to set a world record for the largest gathering of twins — after too many showed up to an attempt at the record on Monday.
The island’s twins gathered in a stadium in the capital of Colombo in an attempt to break Taiwan’s 1999 Guinness World Record, reports the BBC.
While Taiwan boasted 3,961 pairs of twins, 37 sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets, Sri Lanka was unable to properly convene their estimated 5,000 twins for counting, leading to chaos.
Sri Lanka Twins, the group behind the event, says the turnout meant the strict regulations required by Guinness could not be followed.
The organization should learn within the next two weeks if they qualified — and if not, have vowed to try again.
Fourteen thousand pairs of twins are registered with the group Sri Lanka Twins, according to the AFP.
