How many hospital beds and ventilators are free in the Lehigh Valley? A new dashboard tells you. - lehighvalleylive.com

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday launched a dashboard where you can track the number of hospital beds and ventilators in use and available on a county-by-county basis.

It gives a snapshot of the demand the state’s COVID-19 outbreak is placing on Pennsylvania’s health care system.

Hosted on the department’s coronavirus page accessible through health.pa.gov, the tracker details how many people are hospitalized from the new coronavirus today, how many patients are relying on ventilators and how many hospital beds are free.

The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 310 Pennsylvanians with 16,239 total positive cases identified in the state since the first ones were confirmed March 6.

At the time of this writing, there were 1,961 COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the state with 582 people relying on ventilators to help them breathe and nine patients needing the assistance of extracorporeal life support (ECMO) machines that provide cardiac and breathing support. About 38% of the state’s adult intensive care unit beds were free, with nearly half of the medical beds empty.

The dashboard offers a snapshot of the resources in every county in real time as the data -- other than the caseload map -- is updated hourly. (The map is updated daily.)

According to the state, the Lehigh Valley has at least 2,176 positive cases and 28 COVID-19 patients have died.

Northampton County on Wednesday had six adult intensive care unit beds available and 132 medical/surgical beds fee. The county’s hospitals had 47 available ventilators with 24 COVID-19 patients relying on ventilators and 27 non-coronavirus patients using them.

Neighboring Lehigh County’s had 32 adult ICU beds available and 363 medical beds empty. There were 41 coronavirus patients relying on ventilators, with 85 non-COVID-19 patients using them.
