Lockdown has resulted
in epiphanies for many

Re: “Will coronavirus spur a traffic-solving remote-work revolution? Don’t count on it” (Mercurynews.com, March 22):

The shelter-in-place orders that so many of us are fulfilling has resulted in epiphanies for many.

For students, it’s a realization that we might actually like school; for adults it’s that their dream of working at home in pajamas is actually feasible.

But remote work has also had an unforeseen effect on climate change by reducing traffic-congestion and thereby reducing carbon emissions, which is one of the biggest culprits of climate change. However, as mentioned in Nico Savidge’s recent article, if we are to reduce traffic congestion with the intent of slowing climate change, we are going to need an actionable policy that addresses the economic recession that may follow the pandemic.

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (HR 763) fulfills both of those requirements and has bipartisan support. Please write to your representatives to show your support of HR 763 and urge climate action.
