Jay Cutler is known for many, many things; quarterback, reality star, a man dubiously social distancing on an island, and now, being a friend.
On the first episode of his new podcast, I AM ATHLETE, former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall shared the story of how Jay Cutler helped him get out of his gambling debt.
The story was prompted when Marshall was advising new Las Vegas Raiders player Trevon Diggs to stay away from the casinos during his time in Sin City (generally good advice), but Marshall said he learned this lesson the hard way.
“I’ve never told this story before, my third year in the league [with the Broncos], I had to call Jay Cutler and ask for $60,000. I was out in Vegas, and I lost all my money.”
When Marshall said he lost all his money, he wasn’t kidding. He explained how he put a marker down at the casinos, which gave them all his bank account information. Needless to say, things got out of hand pretty quickly.
“I’m at the Mirage. I lose $70,000. I call my people. I’m like, ‘Yo, get me at the Wynn.’ Now, I’m chasing. So, I go to the Wynn and lose another 70-something thousand dollars, bro. I’m literally in the Wynn hotel, and I call Jay. I’m like, ‘Jay, I’m in some trouble. I need $60,000.’ He’s like, ‘Aw, sheesh. B Marsh!’ He’s like, ‘All right. This is what we’re gonna do, though. You’re gonna sign a paper. Some type of document. You owe me.’ Soon as I landed, he had that $60,000 check. I paid the marker off. We went back into the season,”
It's good to know that no matter what sticky situation you get yourself into, Jay Cutler will help you out in a pinch.
