Many Northeast Ohio companies are hiring during coronavirus pandemic, and you can apply with a click of a but - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Despite the coronavirus crisis, many Northeast Ohio businesses are hiring, not just the so-called essential businesses such as grocers, and the region’s chamber of commerce has created a listing of the companies and the available jobs.

The Greater Cleveland Partnership’s sitehas listings for businesses that are able to comply with the state’s stay-at-home order by having employees work remotely, and features a link for those who wish to apply for the jobs.

“Our employers now hiring site provides as many opportunities as possible that would qualify as ‘essential’ under current state guidance,” said Marty McGann, GCP’s senior vice president of advocacy and strategic initiatives, in an email. ”We also wanted to make sure we look at this broadly to encompass additional employers in growth mode who can help our region emerge from this challenge.”

The jobs range from stock clerks to software engineers and the list includes several prominent local companies and services providers. For example:

Materials manufacturer Avery Dennison is looking for coating, extrusion and production operators.

Charter Steel, a supplier of carbon and alloy steel, wants billet conditioners, finishing operators and materials handlers.

Lincoln Electric, producer of arc welding equipment and other products, is advertising for general production jobs in its Euclid and Mentor plants.

Insurance giant Progressive needs a variety of positions, including IT and data analysis.

BoxCast, a live-streaming provider, wants software engineers.

The website is being updated daily, said Deb Janik, senior vice president of business growth and development at the GCP.

Janik said the idea for the website evolved after she had a conversation with the general manager of the local Amazon fulfillment center, which is hiring to meet the demands brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

But many of the jobs being listed would be in demand even if the pandemic had not emerged, she said.

For example, Foundation Software is looking to expand its Strongsville operations but canceled an April recruiting event because of the pandemic.

“The fact of the matter is Foundation Software is still hiring,” she said.
